KEADILAN Youth stands in solidarity with KEADILAN Vice President Rafizi Ramli, whose final appeal against two 18-month jail sentences imposed on him, will be heard on 1 June 2018 by the Court of Appeal.
Rafizi was handed these sentences for having allegedly breached the Official Secrets Act (OSA) by revealing the 1MDB audit report.
It is worth noting that the Auditor-General has recently disclosed that the classification of the report under the OSA was meant to be temporary until the Public Accounts Committee complete its probe into 1MDB.
Moreover, the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) has also recently withdrawn its suit against Rafizi for allegedly implying it has no money to pay gratuities to military veterans—which was connected to his decision to reveal the 1MDB audit report in the first place.
Based on these facts, we are hopeful and indeed confident that Rafizi’s appeal will be accepted.
Whatever happens, his contributions to Malaysia’s democratisation and exposing financial scandals are clear and we know that he will continue to serve the national interest.
