The days and weeks ahead will witness the formation of the first Pakatan Harapan Federal Government.
I know that many Malaysians will be watching the process with a measure of excitement, interest and even anxiety.
The negotiations to form the Cabinet are still ongoing and I hence urge all parties to be patient.
The Pakatan Harapan government is a coalition government and was elected as such.
Hence, all decisions will need to be made as a coalition.
I am confident that the process will be done transparently, equitably and with the interests of the nation always at the forefront.
I also understand that there is much speculation about potential new entries into Pakatan Harapan.
The decision on whether to accept them must be left to the leadership of the Pakatan Harapan.
It goes without saying however, that parties or individuals who will not commit to the our agenda for reform and our manifesto should not be admitted.
A viable democracy needs a strong Opposition. This has been our stand out of government and it must continue now that we are in government.
At the same time, the Pakatan Harapan federal and state governments must give the Barisan Nasional as well as the other parties the space and resources to act as a parliamentary Opposition should.
Malaysia’s democracy is on the cusp of great maturity and all parties must continue to support this great task we have begun.
