We welcome the recent Court of Appeal ruling which reaffirmed the High Court’s decision in Anwar Ibrahim’s defamation case against UMNO Youth Leader and Federal Minister Khairy Jamaluddin for remarks he made against Anwar in a ceramah in Lembah Pantai in 2008.
The High Court had ruled that Khairy should pay Anwar RM150,000 in damages and another RM60,000 in costs. The Court of Appeal has also added another RM10,000 in costs to be paid to Anwar.
The ruling reaffirms that the scurrilous attacks against Anwar are clearly untrue.
As such, Khairy owes Anwar, as well as all Malaysians, an apology for using such malicious and intemperate language.
