I am deeply dismayed and concerned over reports that the patron of the Negara-Ku movement, Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan is being investigated for sedition.
This was after a report was lodged against her by the “Persatuan Pertubuhan Merah Terengganu” after remarks she allegedly made about the Biro Tata Negara (BTN).
I fail to see how her remarks-as reported by the media-is any way seditious or a threat to national security.
For the record, I too have made similar comments about the problematic nature of the BTN. As a first term backbench assemblyman, I demanded the Pakatan Selangor Government to stop sending civil servants to BTN.
The government of Najib Razak owes the people of Malaysia an explanation as to why so many independent voices are being charged with sedition over such a short period of time while other more serious problems are being virtually ignored or left unattended.
I believe the exploitation of religious and racial issues is an attempt to distract the public particularly the Malays from the growing problem of inequality and inflation as the cost of living goes up.
